Glengariff in County Cork

Valentia, County Kerry

Valentia Island can be found in the south west of the country on the Iveragh Peninsula. There is a bridge that connects the island to the mainland as well as the car ferry. Things get a little prehistoric here because this is where fossilized footprints were discovered in 1993. The fossils are 385 million years old! A visit to Westport demonstrates one of the few cities that was actually planned, being drafted in 1780 by a famous architect in the Georgian style. The design incorporates a beautiful river and you’ll find tree lined streets and attractive layouts. There is a charming bridge over the river, and you’ll find the famous mountain ‘The Reek’ nearby.
