- The Guinness Storehouse
This attraction always hits the top spot in terms of visitor attractions. Ireland is famous for its Guinness so where better to begin your trip then the Storehouse? They have been making Guinness here since 1759 and the building has even been modelled to look like a giant pint. Enjoy a free pint and some amazing views over the city.
- Book of Kells
For a real sense of the depth of history on the Emerald Isle, visit the Trinity College where this ancient tome has been in safe keeping since 1653. The Book of Kells was written approximately 800 AD and is stunningly beautiful. It contains the Four Gospels, written in Latin and was once buried to keep it safe from invading Vikings!
- The Irish Museum of Modern Art
If art is more your scene then a visit to the Modern Art Museum is a must. Situated in the impressive grounds of a former hospital, you’ll find exciting regular exhibitions, resident artist displays and artist studios in the renovated stable buildings on the grounds. - Kilmainham Gaol
No longer occupied, this gaol is the largest in Ireland. It was home to many of the country’s most famous political and military leaders at times and you’ll get to experience the formidable conditions of this dramatic prison and what it might have been like to be confined here before it closed in 1924.
- National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology
This is an incredible experience where you can see Celtic and Medieval artworks, the best prehistoric gold pieces in Europe and learn what life was like under Viking rule. On display are some amazing artefacts from Irish history including the Tara Brooch and the Ardagh Chalice.
- Dublin Zoo
Once you’ve discovered the fascinating history of Ireland, it’s time to go wild with a trip to the zoo. The zoo has an impressive collection of animals from all over the globe, roaming in natural habitats. Sections to visit include the African Savannah and Kaziranga Forest where you’ll discover Asian elephants, zebras, tigers, gorillas and red pandas.
- The Little Museum of Dublin
Focusing on the history of Dublin itself, you’ll find a warm welcome and some very knowledgeable staff. There are free guided tours every hour and whether your passion is U2 or James Joyce, you’ll learn more about it here in this great little cultural addition to the city.
- St Patrick’s Cathedral
If you love impressive architecture then be sure to include the cathedral on your tour of the city. Built in the 13th century, it is one of only a handful of medieval buildings left in Dublin and the biggest cathedral in the whole country.
