Things to do in Somerset this summer

Somerset, in the southwest of England, is known for its unique geological features as well as beautiful places to visit. Steeped in history, the county’s stunning architecture dates to the middle ages. If you love a beach holiday you can enjoy its picturesque coastline and Exmoor Park is a treat for walkers. Here are a few things to do while visiting this summer.

Geological wonders

Explore Britain’s biggest gorge in Cheddar and see the magnificent stalagmite caves and climb the 274-step lookout tower. Don’t forget to sample some cheese while you are there. Not far from Cheddar’s limestone gorge, Wookey Hole has beautiful subterranean caves and unique rock formations open to the public.

Dunster Castle

This National Trust property has a castle, fully restored eighteenth-century watermill, splendid Victorian gardens as well as a tearoom providing refreshments during your visit. The city of Bath

Bath is a world heritage city famous for its attractions. Admire the stunning Georgian architecture of Queen Square, the Circus and the renowned Crescent. Explore the ruins and roman baths at Britain’s only hot spring. Take advantage of the numerous attractions such as the Fashion Museum, the Jane Austen Centre and the Royal Art Gallery, as well as the many local restaurants, during your visit.

Glastonbury

Taunton town

Taunton is the county town of Somerset and is famous for fresh produce, including cheese and cider and attractive amenities. Take the heritage steam railway near Taunton to the stunning beach at Minehead.

Weston-super-Mare
