Don’t get blinded by blinds

Do you get confused between your Venetian and your Roman? You are not alone. There seems to be a whole host of names for the blinds we love to hang in our windows to decorate and for providing privacy. But which is which? Here we take a look at the different kinds of blinds available and what they are called.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds have vertical panels that can are adjustable to control the amount of light that enters the room. The blinds can also be pulled to one or both sides of the window if you want to allow all the light to enter. They come in different widths and lengths, and they are a great choice for full-length windows, conservatory windows or patio doors. Vertical blinds can be bought in a range of colours, textures and patterns and many of the fabrics are machine washable. Vertical blinds are also good at enhancing the height of a room, which is something to keep in mind if ceilings are low in your home. Vertical blinds also allow good air circulation.

Venetian Blinds

This is probably the most well-known blind and they have horizontal panels that are made of wood or aluminium. The slats can be adjusted to control the amount of sunlight allowed into the room. Venetian blinds are available in various widths and lengths and are great for offering a clean, tidy look. It’s easy to choose a material that compliments your existing décor and they are also easy to wipe clean. For Bathroom Roller Blinds, visit http://www.ucblinds.co.uk/PVC-Waterproof-Roller-Blinds

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are made from vinyl fabric that is wrapped around a dowel, which can be rolled up or down by using a cord system. Roller blinds are particularly useful in rooms where you might want complete privacy, such as a bathroom or bedroom. This variety offers a simple but stylish option, as roller blinds are available in many different colours and styles, such as straight, shaped or decorative hems.

Honeycomb Shade

The less well-known Honeycomb shade is a very flexible option for windows that might be a non-standard shape. The combs give this product their distinctive look but they also trap air, which makes these shades both sound and thermal insulators.  Honeycomb shades can be installed vertically or horizontally, because they are lightweight.

Honeycomb blinds also offer varying levels of light control. With their crisp tailored lines, honeycomb shades work well in contemporary surroundings and in windows without moulding. Many people like the subtle look of honeycomb shades that blend with the wall colour, but you can also create a dramatic effect by contrasting the shade colour with the walls.

Shutters

Shutters have a very period, rustic feel to them and add much character to a room. Shutters that have been painted are more traditional choices. Unlike historical shutters, shutters called Plantation shutters can be hung on the inside of the windows.

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds are made from fabric that contain pleats. They have been made for hundreds of years, using cloth and pulley systems to make the blind lower to a complete flat piece of fabric, or raise to bundle up into folds of material.
